  • Important Rules for CFIHL League Play


**Per parks and recreation - No alcohol is permitted in Barber Park or hockey rink area. Thank you for your cooperation.**


Regular Season Game Format:

• 3-minute warm-up

• 1-minute intermission

• 3 x 15-minute periods running time (A-League)

3 x 12-minute periods running time (B-League)

• Stop clock last 3 minutes if game is within 3 goals (A-League)

Stop clock last 2 minutes if games is within 2 goals (B-League)

• Each team is permitted one timeout per game, of one minute in length. Timeouts are not permitted in any overtime periods.

Penalties: 

NEW! 2 minute minor penalties but the clock can be stopped if PK team is slow to get to faceoff at REFS discretion.

Carryover penalty: In an overtime game, a carryover penalty will be played under the same format as regulation play. For example, if a team is down a man heading into shootout, the team will be unable to utilize the penalized player.

Slurs: We have a no tolerance policy on the use of slurs. Players will be issued a match penalty, and will have a hearing with the league directors.

Tie Breakers: 

• All regular season games that end in a tie score will now go to 3 on 3 for 3 minutes, if still tied 2 on 2 for 2 minutes, and if STILL tied 1 on 1 until there's a goal!  Any penalties during this time will result in a penalty shot. Win will result in 2pts and loss will receive 1pt.

• If the score is tied at the end of a semi-final or final playoff game, 4vs4 sudden death overtime will occur until there is a winner. 

• If two or more teams are tied at the conclusion of round robin play, the following tie breakers will apply

POINTS > GAMES PLAYED > WINS > GOAL DIFFERENTIAL


Playoffs Game Format (Semi-Final + Championship):

• 3-minute warm-up

• 1-minute intermission

• 3 x 15-minute periods running time

• Stop clock last 3 minutes within 3 goals

• Each team is permitted one time-out per game, of one minute in length. Time-outs are not permitted in any overtime periods.

• All minor penalties are 2 minutes in duration and all major penalties are 4 minutes in duration.

• If the score is tied at the end of a semi-final or championship game, sudden death overtime will occur until there is a winner.

Carryover penalty: In an overtime game, a carryover penalty will be played under the same format as regulation play. For example, if a team is down a man heading into overtime, the team will maintain a 4 on 3 advantage at the start of overtime.
